A Pie for Pi Day

March 14, 2010

I’m no math nerd, but I have a deep appreciation for Pi Day, mostly because it’s an excuse to eat pie.

There should be a pi symbol where the heart is.

I love pie, even though I seldom eat it. Today, I realized why. New York City is a hotbed of dessert options, with gourmet cupcake bakeries, chocolate stores and even specialty cannoli shops, but it’s surprisingly lacking in pie options. A Google search for “good pie nyc” turns up only one pie bakery, Little Pie Company, with locations in the Theater District and Tribeca. I searched and searched and couldn’t find anything near the East or West Villages, which was disappointing.

Whole Foods came through though. They had a selection of both cream and fruit pies. I went with blueberry with a caramelized sugar topping — a sweet end to a work-filled day!
